  - We are going to spend our holidays at the seaside, must we rinse the dog after his swim ?  
   

We strongly recommend you rinse him with fresh water.

 
  - At what age should I have my dog confirmed ?  
   

You can have your dog confirmed from 15 months on.
Documents to be presented to the confirming judge:

- Birth Certificate.
- Tattoo or Microchip Card
- Confirmation Form [filled out]

 
  - I am going to have my bitch spayed but am told she should first have had a litter. Is that really indispensable ?
   

No, that is totally unnecessary, it is just a conceived idea.

 
- I want to have my dog X-rayed. What is the best age to do that?
   

18/24 months, when the dog has practically stopped growing is the ideal age to X-ray hips and elbows.

 
  - I have a RR that is now confirmed and x-rayed ; however, among his siblings were some with Dermoid Sinus. The breeder tells me I can breed with my dog. What do you think?
   

Whether male or female, breeding from such a dog is not recommended. Your dog may carry the gene which is a risk for the future puppies. This selective breeding view is also held by numerous foreign Clubs.

 
- As of what age can a bitch be bred ?
 

It is best to start breeding when the bitch is 2 ½- 3 years old. Our breed is very prolific and big litters of [8 – 12 and more] puppies are frequent. Breeding a bitch too soon could exhaust and deform her.
And don’t breed her too many times or too close together. And she should not be bred after she has reached 7/8 years of age.

 
- Are Show Judges paid ?
 

More conceived ideas. In France all Show Judges officiate as volunteers, only their transportation and Hotel expenses are taken care of.

 

- We are moving soon and would like to take on a RR. However our new property is not yet fenced in. What do you think?
 

It is better for your peace of mind and the safety of your future dog to wait until the property is well fenced in. This goes for all breeds of dogs. Bear in mind that RRs are excellent jumpers so the fence should be of good height.
